Motorcycle Repair: crf50 will not run after choke is let out., compression stroke, new bikes

Question
My Daughters 2004 crf50 will start with choke on but after it should be warm and we put choke back to normal it stalls out.I was overseas for a year but put fuel saver in the gas and it was started 2 or 3 times while I was gone.Thanks.

Answer
Chris, despite your best intentions, I think the idle jet is probably plugged up with a little dirt or gum of some kind. Pull the float bowl and see if you can run a fine wire up inside the small idle jet, then try it again. Good time to check the float bowl for dirt/debris/water.

The other thing, often overlooked, is that the valves need adjusting especially after breakin period. The clearances often close up in new bikes and that reduces the compression when running.

Most small singles require only .002" for valve clearance, set COLD and on the TDC COMPRESSION stroke!
