Motorcycle Repair: battery removal, yamaha virago 1100, vent hose

Question
Hey Falcon, I need to remove the battery from a 96 yamaha virago 1100.  I thought it would be a simple job even for someone like me who is not very mechanically inclined.  So far Ive disconnected the negative cable, unhooked the rubber strap, removed the seat, and nearly undid a fuel line before deciding I'd better not.  The user manual was no help; It just said to remove the battery, but not a clue as to how.  The weather is starting to improve, so I'd really like to get out on the open road.  Please help me!

Answer
Hi Jack.

Okay.......first thing I have to wonder is why the fuel line?  It is nowhere near the battery.  There is a battery vent hose that is attached to the battery, but that is the only hose anywhere near the battery.

The battery on the XV series is one of the easier batteries to remove.

There are no secrets to pulling the battery. To quote a so overused cliche'.....Just do it.
If you are concerned with any problems about it, then just take it one step at a time, analyse each step and note how each part/connection goes together, then move on to the next step.  It is a very effective way to learn the processes, albeit sometimes slow.

And don't be suprised when you have one or more of those "AHA" moments during the process.

Good luck and ride safe.
