Motorcycle Repair: flooding out, float bowls, 7oo

Question
I have a a 1985 yamaha maxima 7oo and it sat a few years and the bike will run good sometimes and then it will flood out other times. I know how a car  carb works and the float is simple, but how does one work on a inline 4 motorcycle or is it something else  Also it floods out where it starts to fill the air box  any help would be greatly appreatiated

Answer
Hi William,

I suspect fuel left in the float bowls has varnished. If so, the carbs will need thoroughly cleaned to restore proper performance.

The needle valves may be varnished internally, or rust particles from the tank is preventing the needle valves from stopping fuel flowing into float bowls. Either case will cause fuel to enter airbox and cylinders/crankcase. Check oil for odor of gasoline.
