Motorcycle Repair: 1998 Shadow Spirit 1100 jetting and valve adjustment, fuel mileage, rear cylinder

Question
I have drag pipes on my bike and was wondering your thoughts on rejetting with dynojet kit.I was told my bike has a 175 front and 180 rear jets and I see that that dynojet has a kit for better engine cooling.the front carb seems to be running lean.Eddie

Answer
Hi Eddie,

In my experience, jet kits get the air-fuel mixtures in the ballpark. Additional tuning is usually needed to correct air-fuel mixtures.

I've had one MC that additional tuning wasn't necessary after installing a jet kit.

Richening the mix will help cool the cylinders, especially rear cylinder. An overly rich mix will affect performance and lower fuel mileage.
