Motorcycle Repair: Coolent change, wingthings texas, 1982 aspencade

Question
I just purchased a 1982 Aspencade GL1100.  I drained the coolent to replace and found that the Radiator Cap is impossible to get to.  I tried filling it up thru the overflow and it just drained out thru the overflow hose...How do I refill?

Thanks

Hi Walt,

A:  The radiator cap is difficult to access, though it is possible.

Get a copy of the service manual. It has illustrated procedures for changing coolant and more. It's the best $30 you can invest into your motorcycle. It will pay for itself with the first repair or maintenance you perform.

Visit these Goldwing resources and learn more about maintaining your new GL1100.

Cooling systems are designed to be air free. It's very important to purge the air from the cooling system anytime the system is opened. You'll need a tool such as the MityVac brand "AirEvac" tool to do this.
