Motorcycle Repair: Sportster starter, selenoid, positive cable

Question
Mike,
I have a 97 Sprotster. It will not start, when I press the start button I get a real low click noise. I replaced the starter relay and the battery is fully charged. How can I test the selenoid or starter without removing them? How well does the selenoid rebuild kit work?

Thanks, Gary

Answer
Even though the battery is fully charged, make sure you have a good battery. Check the ground cable at the battery as well as at the grounding point. Check your positive cable also. If they are not tight it will not start.
If the above is all good, then you will have ot remove the starter and test it. There is no test you can do on the bike.
As to the rebuild kit, they work quit well, if that is the problem. You might have a bad starter or bad brushes in the starter.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
