Motorcycle Repair: winterizing, flhr road king, stablizer

Question
I'm getting conflicting reports on wether it's better to change oil now when I'm putting my bike away for the next 4 months or wait till spring when I take it out of storage. The shed I store the bike in is not heated and I'm told if I change the oil now I'll have to do it again in spring because of condensation buildup in the engine. What are your thoughts on this? The bike is a 2005 flhr road king with 4500 miles. It will need an oil change at 5000 miles service checkup anyway. Oil is syn3.

Answer
A couple of things you should do for the winter. First, change the fluids. This get the acids out that has build up in the oil. Dont worry about changing it in the spring or that it will draw moisture. It will be fine.
Second, fill the fuel tank all the way and put some stablizer in it. This will keep the tank from rusting and keep the fuel fresh.
Third, get a battery tender for the battery. It will make the battery last longer and keep it charged over the winter.
Last, leave it sit. Dont start it and let it idle. in the winter, it takes around 40 minutes for the bike to completly warm up. So every time you let it sit and idle and not get fully warmed up the oil will draw moisture. Then the motor doenst get hot enough to drive the moisture out.
Good luck and happy riding
