Motorcycle Repair: 1978 KZ1000 Front Fork Repair, hex bolts, oil seals

Question
I'm replacing the oil seals, springs and fluid. How does the inner cylinder come out of the outer tube? Do I need a special tool to stick inside the cylinder and then turn the allen head bolt on the bottom of the fork? The oil seals are still on. Do they need to come out last? Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi William,

I recommend the service/repair manual for best results.

Mistakes can be quite expensive. The manual will pay for itself with the first repair you perform.

First, remove the seal retainers and drain fork oil.

I use a air butterfly tool to remove the hex bolts from the bottom tubes. Once removed, the inner and outter tubes will separate when pulled apart.
