1984 FXST with 1340 EVO. S&S carb, EV3 cam, MSD ignition. Never been rebuilt, don't know how many miles are on it. After warming up and idling for a long time (sitting at a light) I get smoke from the exhausts.
Answer -
Smoke comes from two different places. You either have bad piston rings and oil is leaking by, or bad valve guide seals and oil is doing the same thing.
Either way, you will have to to a top end job on the bike.

Thanks, how would I be able to tell if it is the rings or valve guides seals. And what does a top end job consist of.

Answer
To tell where the oil is coming from. You would need to first check the cylinders for scoring and then mic them to see if they are in specs. On the guides, the seals would be bad and you would check the valve to valve guide clearence.
When doing the top end it consists of, replacing all gaskets and seals on the top end, replacing the pistons and rings if needed, honing they cylinders, removing and checking the valves and relapping them.
