Motorcycle Repair: Accellerator Cable, accelerator cable, honda 250

Question
Question for: Honda 250 Nighthawk, 1987

I noticed yesterday that when I turn my wheel to the right, the engine revs dramatically. I investigated some, and realized that the Accelerator cable seems to be pulled somehow when I turn the bars. I pulled the cable a little by hand and it did the same thing. I can only guess that the connection is bad, or it's a faulty cable, but I wanted your opinion first.
Also, when I pull the accelerator more than a hair's width, it stalls, and the bike idles. It can take up to eight seconds before it actually kicks into 'go' mode, and even that's only a fifty-fifty shot. Any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Derek,

The problem is usually due to the cable being routed improperly or the cable snagging on another part.

If the fuel tank was removed and re-installed recently, remove the tank and pay attention to throtle cable routing upon installing the tank. Sometimes the tank moves the cable and causes the problem as described.

If the problem suddenly happened without anyone performing any service or repairs, consider having a local tech inspect the problem for you.
