Motorcycle Repair: 1968 CL 175, air screws, adjustment screws

Question
I recently got my Honda running after 25 years of setting in the garage but it isn't running right.  The adjustment of the throtle stop and air screws on the carburetors have very little if any effect. Any suggestions, plus what is the initial settings i.e. 1/2 turn from full in?

Answer
Bill, if you didn't completely clean the carburetors, then the adjustment screws won't do much of anything.

Your other concerns should be to check the mechanical spark advancer, behind the points plate. Be sure that it is free to move in both directions. Then, clean the points, gap them to .012-.016" on the high spot on the points cam, then move the point plate to where the points open at the F mark alignment on the flywheel. Do the ignition stuff before you start fiddling with the carbs.

The whole fuel system must be cleaned and checked for any deposits or debris. Carb float valves must be clean and the floats adjusted to 21.0 mm. Start with 1 turn out on the idle mix screws. Needle clip should be in the #3 slot.
Be sure you don't mix the carb slides up. They are specific for L & R sides. The cutaway goes to the air filter side, NOT towards the engine.
