Motorcycle Repair: Starting problem, dl 650 v strom, 650 v strom

Question
I noticed that the bike was not running as usual a few weeks ago. It was running a little rough. I thought it unusual because the bikr is only 10 months old and has only 1,000 miles on it. It is a DL 650 (V-strom). I rode it to work yesterday and it ran even rougher. I got on to ride home and all it does it turn over. There ia an ocassional backfire but the engine never starts or even studders. It just cranks and cranks. Since I am now Stationed in Guam, the warentee is not in effect. Any suggestions?
