Motorcycle Repair: Starting Problems, starter solenoid, gauge cluster

Question
Hello,

I have recently had an accident with a 1999 kawasaki zx7r.  It was not a very serious one but I did attain a decent amount of damage.  I have had to remove my gauge cluster, headlights, front fairing, all do to damage.  Some of the wiring harness was also damaged which I think was the cause of my battery dieing.  I have since only replaced the battery and have repaired all the frayed wires and am now trying to just get the bike started before I buy new headlights and a gauge cluster.  The problem is that when I push the start button nothing happens. And I mean nothing.  Not a single sound.   The starter is not even trying to start.   The horn does work however so I kno the battery is working.  I was just wondering if there are any safety switches I might have triggered, or if headlights and a guage cluster are needed for the bike to start.  Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated.
 Thanks for your time

Answer
Hi Jeff,

The gauges will need to be connected. The CDI/ECM circuit includes the gauge set.

There may be other problems related to the starting problem, too. Check clutch safety switch, side stand safety sw, neutral safety sw, starter button, starter solenoid, and related conductors.
