Motorcycle Repair: Kawaski Concours Speedometer, bike bandit, speedo cable

Question
Riding in to work this morning the speedometer on my 2003 Kawaski ZG1000 (Concours) simply quit working.  Everything else (gauges) are working fine. One second it was indicating 75 mph and the next it had went to zero.  I've never had any kind of problems with the bike and it is serviced (dealer) in accordance with the manual. Before taking it to a dealer, is there something I can check on my on. I commute 80 miles a day in Houston and really need that speedometer. Arriving at work I restarted the bike and everything seems normal except for the speedometer. Thanks for your help

Answer
Hi Kevin,

I suspect that the speedo cable came loose from the meter or the cable broke.

You can see the parts at "www.bikebandit.com" and at "www.buykawasaki.com"

A new cable is $15 plus shipping from Bike Bandit.

You can install a new cable yourself. If so, remember how the old cable is routed prior to removal. Install new cable same way.
