Answer
Hi Bruce,

Q:  "...i have a 94 1000 verago.pinpointed a knocking at top of rear cylynder.and the chain is tight in any stroke .what could the knocking be?"

A:  Knocking may be caused by detonation, worn or defective piston/connecting rod, valve assy., or other.

The camshaft timing chain tensioner may be worn or defective.

A tech needs to inspect your Virago to accurately diagnose the cause.

Q:  "...is the chain suppose to be that tight? the front loosen's in different strokes .plus the back gets hotter then the front ."

A:  I supect a prblem with the timing chain, chain tensioner, and/or valve assy.

V-twin rear cylinders get hotter than front cylinders due to a lack of convection (air flow). The rear carburetor is usually jetted richer than the front to aid with cooling the rear cylinder.
