Motorcycle Repair: Starting problems, jon thorn, suzuki katana

Question
Hi.
I have just got a Suzuki Katana GSX 750 as a little project for myself but am having trouble...
When i try to start the bike the starter moter turns over but the engine won't fire at all. the bike had previously been sitting for around a year and hadn't been ridden. i have changed the fuel and takin out the carbs and all is good there. i have also sprayed engine starter into the carbs hoping for a reaction but still nothing!
What could the problem be?

Answer
Hi Jon,

I sent several tech files to your email. Review the files and perform troubleshooting procedures.

An engine needs three elements to run: correct air/fuel mixtures, a spark at exact time and adequate cylinder compression.

Determine which of the elements are not present and correct.
