Motorcycle Repair: welding/adhesing broken crankcase piece, honda shadow 750, 1983 honda shadow 750

Question
You're the only one available to ask a ?. I am rebuilding a 1983 Honda Shadow 750 VT motorcycle engine. A piece of the gear shifter sleeve inside the (aluminum)crankcase broke off. Is there any way to weld it back and re-bore the hole, or is there an adhesive or epoxy that can bond two aluminum cast pieces together at engine running temperatures?

Answer
There is really no epoxy that will work on cases. The metal in the case is porus and holds to much oil to use any kind of glue. What you need to do is get it welded and then redrilled, probably by a machinest. I have done this to many harley cases where things have broken off or a bearing has gone out and damaged the case.
Good luck and happy riding
