Motorcycle Repair: H.D. primary chaincase, mild cam, flst

Question
I have 2 Questions 1 having recently purchased a used 87 FLST I am not familiar with all the noises The bike makes. If the primary chain is stretched and needs adj.what sort of sound would it make. 2The top end has had some work done on it like a mild cam and a slight bore [10 over]IT ALSO HAS A SS SUPER E carb with Porky unbaffled pipes. At low RPMs The engine is fairly smooth but when you goose it past a certain speed the bike vibrates so bad you cant see out of the mirrors. I dont know what to think about this and hope you can turn me in the right direction

Answer
The easiest thing to do is check the chain. remove the middle cover on the primary. You will need to have the bike sitting upright. You can see the chain and the adjuster nut. You should have around 1/2 inch play in the chain when cold. If it needs adjusted then loosen the nut until you can slide the bar either up or down.
Vibrations are a big thing with harleys. Many harleys do the same thing. Check all the motor mounts bolts, to make sure they are tight.
Good luck and happy riding
