Motorcycle Repair: get an old bike running, brake calipers, rust spots

Question
i just got my first bike - yamaha 400 special II just something to help with gas mileage issues that i have with my truck. The bike has been sitting for 7ish years. i know that i have to flush the tank and clean the hell out of the carbs, but is there anything else i should be looking for in particular? dryrot on hose covers, superficial rust spots, etc..  just excited about getting it running. thanks for any feedback. -tyler

Answer
Hi Tyler,

Clean the carburetors, check petcok and fuel tank for rust/varnishing, check battery, spark plugs, etc...

Brake calipers may need rebuilt if bracke fluid has gelled. Replace caliper seals and flush brake fluid.
