Motorcycle Repair: Suzuki Katana idle problems, suzuki katana 750, oil leaks

Question
I have a 93 Suzuki Katana 750 that I have been working on. I have had the heads off and had troubles getting them back on. I kept getting oil leaks. I got the oil leaks fixed and finally thought I had it ready to ride, but I can't get it to idle. It will idle either to high (over 2000 rpm) or to low (less than 1500 rpm). The idle seems to fluxuate. I have red all the trouble shooting in my repair manuals and it suggests either carberator mounts not sealed properly or leaking head gasket. I am pretty sure I got the head gasket set right this time, since I don't have oil running all over. So would the problem be the carberator mounting or something else?

Answer
If the heads are properly installed, the carbs are likely the cause of the problem.

With the engine running, check for air leaks by spraying a non-flamable spray around the carbs and intake manifolds. Some mechanics use WD-40, others use brake cleaner. The spray will cause rpm's will either increase or decrease if a leak is present. Whatever you use, use caution and have a fire extingquisher on hand.
