Motorcycle Repair: honda shadow, ebay auctions, honda shadow

Question
Bill thanks for your ansewr on my 500cc 85 Shadow.

Since it would be a bit of work for met to do my self, do you have any Idea on what a fair price would be to a mechanic.

Or might it just be better that I sell the bike as is.  If so what do you think the value might be on it as is or up and running.   I am not an active rider any more due to sky diving accident so getting ride of the bike is what I would like to do.  Any suggestions.

Answer
Steve, the condition and mileage have a lot to do with the "market value" A nice clean running one is probably a $1500 machine, depending on your location. Ones that are dead, with contaminated fuel systems, needing the kind of rehab I mentioned are $500 more or less. If it was mine and I did all the work myself, it would cost a good $300-500 just in parts and materials to bring it to life, assuming that it was in decent physical shape and had low miles on it. Labor at a shop at $60hr or so will mount up in a hurry for anyone that is not experienced in m/c repair.

Put it on EBAY auctions, advertise in local CycleTrader magazines or similar....  People are not lining up for them, so it will be a matter of luck and location as to whether you sell it quick and for a good price.

Best wishes...   Bill Silver
