Motorcycle Repair: evolution overhaul?, electroglide, first timer

Have been told by the dealer here, that my recently purchased 1991 electroglide needs a reman engine and new transmission at a wopping 7g +. Was told that the motor and tranny was about 1/2 of that, am thinking of doing the work myself,have pretty good mechanical eperience but first timer on the bike.I have the service manual and doesnt seem too bad.My question is if you can give me some insight as to sites to get parts or tools that may be needed. also if I can save money by rebuilding exsisting engine & tranny? The bike seems to run fine at this point, but has some serious knocking going on, that I was told is the rod Knocking? It has 60000 miles and has been rebuilt once before. was expecting some work on the bike but not this much, can you help? thanks.   R-2

before you spend all your money on stuff you dont need I would check to see if it is the rod that is going out first!!!. I dont think it is the rods going out and you will spend a lot of money on tools you wont need again for a while. Johnny 602-705-7474
