Motorcycle Repair: Honda Z-50 lighting woes, low beams, night cam

Question
Hi Chris,

I have built up from scratch a 1969 Honda Z50K-1
which up until yesterday everything worked perfectly...the headlight decided to quit the other night, cam back on, quit again and stayed out. A few hours later I restarted the bike, the headlight popped on, both hi and low beams worked fine, then poof out if went for good. I have checked the bulb, the grounding and the fuse back by the battery. Am I missing something or has something burned out? The taillight in all this still works perfectly...many thanks! Jeff

Answer
Hi Jeff.
Check 2 things.  The wiring may have some intermittent shorts or the fuse could have a loose/dirty contact or the fuse could be bad.  In addition, you should check the contact points in the ignition switch as well as the connections for the light as well as the connections for that circuit.  They could be loose/dirty/bad or shorted.

Good luck.
