Motorcycle Repair: yamaha virago, wiring diagrams, virago

Question
I have a 1982 yamaha 920 virago. It ran great until a week ago. I went one week without riding it, and now it won't start. I pulled a spark plug and reconnected it to the plug wire, grounded it, and turned it over. I didn't see a spark, on either side. It only has 11,000 miles on it. I'm not much of a motorcycle repairman, but i can fix a vehicle. Coil? How can I check it? Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Answer
Hi Ricky.
First thing to remember is that an engine is an engine.  Second thing to remember is that a motorcycle is a vehicle, too.  It's just a single-track vehicle.

This could be a short in the ignition circuit wiring, a blown (or bad) ignition fuse, bad fuse connection, bad connection in the ignition circuit or bad ignition coil.

You need the repair manual for the test specs and wiring diagrams.  You will also need a multimeter.

Check the ignition components and ignition circuit and see what you find.

Good luck.
