Motorcycle Repair: Starter/ Suzuki 300L, starter button, email addy

Question
Hi Mark,
First of all, thank you for the info about my pilot jets on my wife's '83 Suzuki 300L. Now, another problem...when I hit the starter button the starter doesn't engage. In fact, nothing happens; no click, no sound of any kind. I can engage the starter by jumping across the 2 solenoids so I know the starter works. I have started it that way. In order for Sarah to ride it, she needs to be able to hit the starter button and vvrrooooommm! Any ideas?

Thanks
Lonnie

Answer
Hi Lonnie (and Sarah),

The symptoms as described indicate a dead battery, loose wiring connection, corroded or defective start button, or same with safety switch: neutral sw., clutch sw., or side stand sw.

Send me an email and I'll return electrical test information files. This info is general, not model specific, but very detailed.

My email addy is: mshively1@woh.rr.com

Respectfully,
