Motorcycle Repair: yamaha gearbox, clutch lever, exact diagnosis

Question
I had recall work done to my 03 roadstar and now when i shift from first to second it goes like this; pull the clutch lever in, shift (you feel the tranny apparently shift)let the clutch out the neutral light goes on and i'm in neutral and then i must try two or three times to get the tranny into second gear. This happens about half the time i make a first to second gear shift. These are the only gears affected. I've never before experienced this kind of problem in my 17 years of riding. Any ideas as to what might be causing this? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Ron,

I suspect the sliding gear is not reaching and engaging with the fixed gear and instead, finds Neutral. As gear's dogs and cogs inter-locking edges become rounded with wear, gears may slip out of gear. I doubt your MC has this problem.

I would need to investigate further for exact diagnosis, of course.

Will the dealer take it back for further repairs? It should be covered under the original warranty repair. If the tech made an error, it's on them, not the customer.
