Motorcycle Repair: Crank vent tube, crankcase breather, vent tube


Question
I have a 1991 FLHS. It has a mild cam, ignition updates and has 22K miles.  Occasionally oil will drip out of the air cleaner when running.  It seems to be coming from what appears to be a crank vent tube.  This tube/vent runs from the side of the air cleaner to the top of the block.  The tube is held in place with a rubber connector to the carb and the block The bike is not ridden much, but started every 10 days.

No pattern to when it happens.  Sometimes a little, sometimes allot.

REMOVE THE TUBE FROM THE BACKING PLATE OF THE AIR FILTER HOUSING. AND RUN A HOSE FROM THE CRANKCASE VENT TO THE BOTTOM OF THE FRAME. DO NOT RUN IT UP TO THE BACKING PLATE OF THE AIR/FILTER HOUSING.  YOUR BIKE IS OIL SUMPING. THE OIL IS GETTING PAST THE OIL PUMPS CHECK BALL AND FILLING THE CRANKCASE WITH OIL AND WHEN THE BIKE IS STARTED IT IS PUSHING EXCESS OIL OUT THE CRANKCASE BREATHER.  BETTER TO GO TO THE GROUNG WITH THE EXCESS OIL THEN INTO THE AIR/FILTER AND CARB.  JOHNNY
