Motorcycle Repair: why dont they make 3 cyl. engines?, torque curves, water buffalos

Question
I've heard about various 3 cyl. bikes. Most of them were older two strokes. From what i understand their 3 cylinder engines provided a good balance of torque and horsepower.

Why don't they maek 3 cyl. bikes anymore?
The only bike new bikes i know of that are 3 cyl. are triumphs, it seems no one makes 'em.

thanks

Answer
Peter,
As far as I'm aware, those new Triumph triples are the only around now.  Gone are the days of the H1, H2's Water Buffalos and such.  Just like 4-stoke technology is approaching 2-stroke power while adding durrability you can't get w/ a 2-stoke, the HP and torque curves are being pushed by many other factors and advancements you may not be aware of.  Now that 2's are outlawed by emmisions, the physics of the 2's are no longer pertenant.  Different from 4's, there power curves are not effected in the same ways.  In other words, triples may have their merrits, other advancements outwiegh them.
