Motorcycle Repair: Yamaha FZR 600 Transmission Noise, bikebandit com, chain sprockets

Question
I have a 90 Yamaha FZR 600 that is making some noise...  Specifically when I am slowing down and off the gas while still in gear (if I engage the clutch...sound goes away).  Something (i think in the drivetrain) is making noise only when I slow down while in gear...no noise on acceleration.  The sound is kind of a "Ca chick, Ca chick, Ca Chick"...as the bike slows down...so does the rate of the sound...Other than that...it seems to be shifting fine... Any thoughts or suggetions?  Thanks a bunch!

Answer
Hi Paul,

Those are great sound effects! : )

The sound may be from the trainy, chain, sprockets, or engine. You'll have to learn the source of the sound yourself, or have a shop investigate.

Try raising the rear end on a stand and rotating the rear whell. Listen for the sound. Try this with the transmission in gear, engine off. Lube the chain and repeat above.
