Motorcycle Repair: Lowering Yamaha 125Z, yamaha 125z, shock absorber

Question
I have a Yamaha 125Z..can it be lowered...do i have to cut the front shock absorber so it'll be shorted and lower..what about the rear absorber

Answer
Hi Khairul.
There are lowering kits out there for many bikes.  You may want to do a web search for a lowering kit for your bike.  If there is one, then you can do it.  Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you cut any part of the frame or suspension system (forks/shocks) to lower that machine.  That is for your safety.

Lowering of the front end entails loosening the forks in the triple-tree (the steering assembly that the forks are bolted through) and moving them up equal distances to keep them even.

Lowering the rear entails the attachment of a part that changes the angle of both of the rear shocks toward the rear where it attaches to the swingarm, thus raising the swingarm and lowering the frame.

If you cannot find a lowering kit for your bike, then, if you know someone who can fabricate one from steel, then get a kit for a similarly designed bike and have one fabricated to match your machine.  However, that may end up being far too expensive to have done.

Good luck.
