Motorcycle Repair: Head and crankcase breathers, crankcase breather, bikers choice

Question
Hello Mike.
I have a 100 CI RevTeck motor with a Mikuni 42 carburator,it is simmilar to an Evo Softail 99'only biger.
The questions.
Is it a good idea to install a crankcase breather and why?.
Is it a good idea to reroute the head breather hoses away from the carburator back plate?
If you think is OK,do you know where can I get kits for this? something that looks clean and neat?
Is there something to keep the exhaust pipes from turning brown ?
Thaks for your time,TONY.

Answer
You dont really need a crankcase breather.
Yes, you can reroute the breather hoses away from the carb backplate. This will stop the oil mist from saturating the air filter. Insted of buying a kit, you can turn the fitting, on the motor where the hose connects, down. Then with a short length of hose run it down and out to the bottom of the engine. Then the mist will go under the bike and not into the oil filter. If you want a kit you can get one from several companies like Custom Chrome and Bikers choice.
As to the pipes turning brown. The only thing you can do is put covers on them to hide the problem. The brown is from heat.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
