Motorcycle Repair: Throttle Cable, yamaha maxim, throttle cable

Question
When I got the bike the throttle cable was disconnected.  I connected it according to what made sense but it won't move now.  Can you give me correct advice on how the throttle cable should be connected and how it works?  This is a 1985 Yamaha Maxim

Answer
Hi Al.
The best advice on this that I can give you is to refer to the repair manual.  When the throttle cable is connected it should be pulling the throttle open.  If it's not, it's either connected wrong, which is very difficult to do, or the throttle is stuck closed.  Without seeing what you've done and what condition the carbs are in, there's really not much that I can tell you with any degree on accuracy.

Good luck.
