Motorcycle Repair: Lower forks, fork leg, fork oil

Question
I have a custom built bike with a wide glide front end. I usually do most all work myself. My lower forks chrome is bubbling up. I have someone that will re-chrome for me. I have never removed lower forks or replaced them. How difficult a job is this & do I need any specialized tools for this.

Thanks for any info.

Answer
on the tools, not really. You should have no trouble doing the job.
First, drain the fork oil. Slide the dust cover up and under it you will see a clip. I cant tell you what kind of clip it is, due the the fact the different manufactures use different clips. The clip holds the seal in. Remove the clip. If you havent done it already, remove the wheel and fender. Looking at the bottom, inside, of the fork you will see a bolt. Remove it. Now grab the lower fork leg and slide it down. It might be tough to remove, but keep sliding it up and down until it comes off. To reinstall, just reverse the order. Make sure you replace the seals.
Good luck and happy riding
