Nissan Repair: 98 Nissan Altima wont start, nissan altima, crank sensor

Question
Hello again, you guy's have been so helpful in the past I was wondering if you could help me one more time. Ok, my problem this time is a couple of days age my wife was driving the altima in slow traffic and it shut off, when she tried to restart it it would start but would not rev up, in face when she pressed the accelerator it would shut down, so I came and had the car towed home thinking it was maybe the distributor again. I took the dist out of the engine checked it for maybe a leaking seal but the inside of the dist is still like new(clean no oil#,next I checked the crank sensor, the sensor showed about 527 ohms,as far as the volts I couldn't get a good reading#only about .003). I disconnected the gas line from the injector rail, turned the ign. switch on and gas ran out, not squirting out, but a constant stream. when I try to start the car it starts, but won't run for no longer that about 5 seconds at a time. any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanking you all in advance: JohnB

Answer
Hi John

When you check the fuel, it should be squirting out with good pressure. If it just flows slowly, then I would say the fuel pump is defective. Of course it is hard to diagnose sight unseen, so the more "clues" you can give me, the better.

But I would check fuel filter for clogging, and fuel pump pressure (should be about 40PSI) first.

Hope this helps -
