Nissan Repair: speed sensor, vehicle speed sensor, speedometer cable

I have a 93 altima does the speed sensor onthe tramissiom comntrol the odmeter on the car and regulate gas milage if I change this defected part will it help the car.

The vehicle speed sensor is a square wave generator.  It takes the place of the speedometer cable of years gone by.  The vehicle speed sensor sends a square wave to the speedometer head.  This is what drives the speedometer and odometer.  Also, it is where the computer picks up the speed of the vehicle.  If the vechile speed sensor is defective your car's mileage will decrease since the computer does not know how fast the car is going and cannot compensate properly.  If your vehicle speed sensor is defective and most of the time if the speedometer is not working properly, this will be the cause.
