Nissan Repair: Car wont start-buzzing behind kick box, nissan altima, distributor shaft

Question
I have a 96 Nissan Altima that will not start since yesterday. When I try to start it the is a loud buzzing coming from a small fuse like box that sit on top of the ECM behind the kick box. Also as I try to start the cat the wipers move and the car battery will completely drain when the car is off after a couple of hours. The car has been jerking, and has at times, completely stopped when I am driving. I have looked for answers all over the internet and have come up with replacing the TCM, but would like an opinion, as I am really not sure.

Answer
Rachel,

The battery and alternator need to be inspected for proper voltage first.  The jerking sounds like the distributor shaft seal has failed.  That means the distributor needs to be replaced.  After these are fixed check for codes.  It is a 1996 and a scanner will pick up what is going on.
