Nissan Repair: Starting Problem, neutral safety switch, battery boost

Question
Having periodic starting problems with 94 Maxima GXE. Example: car started fine and was driven yesterday, but this morning I got nothing when I tried to start.  Car started immediately with battery boost, and then later on its own; however, later today  I test started it at home...no problem.  Ten minutes later, nothing, but started with a jump. Have had 2 new batteries, with the current one installed in January. This has happened off and on for a few months, and sometimes I can go for days before the problem recurs.  A couple of weeks ago I put a full charge on the batt, but I'm back to where I was.  Any ideas?

Answer
Tony,

Sounds like the neutral safety switch is defective or even the starter itself.  If you attempt to start the car and, with foot on the brake, run the shifter through the gears, with the key in the start mode you can see if the car will turn over.  If it does replace the neutral safety switch.  That is the easy way, the more difficult way is to get a test light and back probe the circuit, with someone else turning the key while you test to see where the power stops.
