Nissan Repair: Nissan Sentra Wiper arm, windshield wiper arm, silicone lubricant

Question
QUESTION: How do I replace the windshield wiper arm?

ANSWER: Hi Brenda -

Don't know what year your vehicle is, but essentially should all be the same.

Lift the wiper arm off the windshield (it is hinged near the base). Depending on what year your car is - Some models have a nut that holds it to the stem. If so there is a plastic cover at the base of the arm where it connects to the stem. Lift off that cover and remove the bolt.

Other models do not have the bolt, so once you lift the arm, rock it slowly back and forth and it will work itself loose from the base. Once you place the wiper arm back on the windshield, it locks back into place.

The stem is splined, so please be careful not to strip it, and note the wipers position when it is parked before you remove th arm, so you can replace it at the same angle.

QUESTION: I own a 1997 sentra, my husband says there is a 7 ml bolt there and he has loosened it, but it doesn't seem to come off. What might he be doing wrong?

Answer
Hi Brenda -

The bolt has to be removed entirely, and then it would help if he sprays a little silicone lubricant to loosen the arm from the stem. Rock it back and forth slowly and pull at the same time, and it should work itself loose.

If that does not work, then you can get a special removal tool for it at any auto parts store.
