Nissan Repair: 2003 Nissan Sentra Electrical System, vehicle speed sensor, nissan sentra

My husband's 2003 Nissan Sentra is starting a little rough and when driving along all of the sudden the speedometer will 0 out and the digital odometer goes off and then it comes right back on again with no disruption in the speed. The check engine light has also been coming on and off intermittently and the cruise control cutting out.  It has gone to the dealer but they couldn't recreate the problem and said they couldn't help.  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Two things here.  First, the vehicle speed sensor will cause the speedometer to go to zero and return.

I would go to Autozone or Checker and get them to read the codes for free.  Even with the light out there will be pending codes.  The computer keeps them in memory even if the light goes out.  Have these checked and email me back.
