Nissan Repair: 2007 Nissan Sentra, vehicle speed sensor, 2007 nissan sentra

Question
I have a 2007 Nissan Sentra with 72,000 miles.  About 2 years ago in the summer I was driving it to lunch from work and the RPMs all of a sudden dropped to near zero.  The car would run but would not accelerate, top speed was about 5 miles per hour.  I tried several things to no avail and finally had a friend check the code (I don't remember the exact code but he said the car had gone into limp mode).  I took the car to the dealership and the replaced the throttle body, and the car ran fine for about a year when it did the same thing.  One slight difference, now if I turn the car off and restart it, it usually runs fine.  Sometime I have to do this several times, but so far I can always get the care to "reset" and work fine.  It has gone into limp mode about once every few months until recently when it has been doing it most days.  I know I will have to take it in, but I'm afraid it will be misdiagnosed.  Any thoughts will be very much appreciated.

Answer
Hi Scott -

Sounds like your Throttle body sensor (TBS), or could also be your Vehicle Speed sensor (VSS). The only way to tell for sure is to have the vehicle taken in to get the trouble code. This process is called an OBD (On Board Diagnosis). I think this is done for free from any Autozone place. Do you have one near you?

Once you get the code, then you will know what to replace, and have it done with the confidence that you are doing the right thing.

Hope this helps -
