QuestionQUESTION: Two months ago I had the MAF replaced because the service engine soon light stayed on and the codes said it was the 02 sensors and the mechanic said the dealership told him Nissan's were known for MAF failure.
Light has stayed off but the engine is missing/sputtering intermittently both at idle and while on highway and; my daughter says it died on her once while idling. Took it back to the mechanic, he said there was no codes showing up. He put injector cleaner in the tank but that didn't work. Had tune-up and 100K check done in November.
I was thinking fuel filter but it does it no matter how full the tank is.

Can you tell me what was replaced at the last tune up?
Plugs, wire set, rotor, cap?
How about going up hills or under load - does the car miss steadily, or is it intermittent?

QUESTION: I can't find the invoice but I do know the plugs were replaced and I think the rotor %26 cap. When I took it back to the mechanic he tested all the plug wires to see if spark was getting through, and they were ok.
The missing happens intermittently and doesn't get worse or come on more when going up hill or under a load.
In the last couple weeks it hasn't seemed to happen quite so often but since my daughter also drives it I can't be sure (she can't seem to remember to tell me when it's happened).

Intermittent missing is very hard to diagnose. However, it seems to me it is electrical, so i would check the spark plugs and wires once again. I don't know what method was used to check the wires, but the scope and an ohm meter is the best way. Have the mechanic put it on a scope and see if it shows any high resistance or grounding in a wire or plug. That would show up, especially if the engine is missing at the time of check.
