Nissan Repair: frontier no start, spark plug wire, throttle linkage

Question
QUESTION: I have a frontier 3.3 2wd automatic that will turn over but will not start, replaced fuel pump & fuel filter, It seems like I have spark but have not had a chance to check for sure. It tries to crank but it sounds like its starving for fuel. What ever it is it started to intermit before it quit running. Please help ,trucks been down for 2 weeks,Thanks

ANSWER: Hi Wayne -

Can you tell me how you checked for spark?

Best way to check is to pull a spark plug wire and insert a screwdriver until it wedges against the terminal inside. Hold the screwdriver shaft about 1/4" away from any metal surface of the engine and crank it (do not touch any metal surface while doing this). You should see a spark jump between surfaces. If not, then I would check the ignition module (depending on the year of your car), coils, cap and rotor.

If you do have spark, try priming the intake with starting fluid and crank the engine. If it starts them shuts off right away, you have a fuel delivery issue, perhaps the regulator?

QUESTION: The truck will run when spraying starting fluid in the intake.

Answer
Hi Wayne -

If it starts on the prime and stays started, then after shut off won't start again, might be the cold start injector (may be called something else, as i don;t know what year your truck is). Anyway, it is located on the intake, after the boot near the throttle linkage.

Hope this helps -
