Nissan Repair: 1998 Nissan Sentra GXE Repair, nissan sentra, strut assembly

Question
I'm looking at this Nissan on Craigs List and person says "mechanic says it needs struts". Car has 179,000 miles. What is involved costwise and time to fix struts - Is this shock absorbers?? They are asking $1,400 for car.

Answer
Hi Melinda -

You are correct. The shock absorbers are a part of the strut assembly. You can either replace just the shocks inside, or the entire strut, the latter probably what the car needs, especially with that mileage.

Some front end components will have to be removed to replace the struts. You did not mention whether this is the front or rear, but off hand and ballpark would be maybe $200 per wheel if the entire strut is replaced.

Hope this helps -
