Nissan Repair: 00 infiniti i30, netural, infiniti i30

Question
Car whine at constant stops in drive or reverse not in netural. It disappears at 40mph. Mechanic says its too loud to be transmission and its not the belt. Its coming from near the throttle body is. Any insight

Answer
Hi Ash -

This is difficult to diagnose as the vehicle is not in front of me. I wish it were. Get a hold of a mechanic's stethoscope, or a long (3 foot) screwdriver will do just as well. Hold the nadle part to your ear while you touch the blade to various parts of the vehicle, esp near the throttle body. You should be able to determine at least where the sound is the loudest and start from there.

Is your vehicle turbo? Maybe there is restriction somewhere in the intake manifold, or exhaust manifold. Are you saying if you place the car in neutral and rev it up, there is no sound?

Let me know -
