Nissan Repair: 2000 Nissan Altima-Gear Light/Fan, phillips screws, nissan altima

Question
Recently my light in my middle console where my gear shift is located went out. When I took it to the repair shop they said the dealer had to do it. They said it was not a fuse issue and I have no fuses that are out either. My battery is over 1 year old and I have had no other dashboard light problems anywhere. Do you know if this is something I can fix myself, or do I have to bring it to Nissan?

Answer
Hi Kelly -

This is a relatively simple replacement. The plastic console housing has to come off first, I believe it is a matter of removing phillips screws. You may have to move your seats forward and back to gain access. Once that is removed, carefully work the housing loose noting the wire for the light.

That bulb may have to be purchased from the dealer, as I don't think aftermarket sells them. You may want to check however, such as Autozone.

Hope this helps -
