Nissan Repair: Nissan Quest GXE 97, negative battery cable, power steering pump

Question
I need to replace the power steering pump and I need to know where it is located and a good step by step method for removing and replacing.

Answer
Hi Wayne -

Here it is. The power steering pump is located in the front of the engine where all the belts are.

Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Raise and safely support the front of the vehicle securely on jackstands.

The following steps require the use of a strap wrench to hold the power steering pump pulley while loosening and tightening the nut. If a strap wrench is not available, loosen the nut before removing the drive belt. The drive belt tension will help keep the pulley from turning while loosening the nut.

Remove the A/C compressor, alternator, and water pump/power steering pump drive belts. Please refer to General Information and Maintenance, Routine Maintenance and Tune-Up, Belts, Removal and Installation for the procedure.
Use a strap wrench to hold the power steering pump pulley and loosen the power steering pump pulley nut.
Remove the power steering pump pulley nut and remove the pulley.
Place a drain pan under the power steering pump.
Remove the high pressure hose bolt from the pump and position the hose out of the way.
Remove the two power steering pump reservoir hose bolts on 1993-98 vehicles. On 1999-00 vehicles, loosen the return hose clamp and remove the hose from the pump. Position the hose out of the way.
Remove the three front power steering pump bolts.
Remove the rear pump bolt and remove the pump from the vehicle.

To install:

The installation is the reverse of removal, but please note the following important steps.
When installing the three front and one rear power steering pump bolts, tighten them to 11-15 ft. lbs. (15-20 Nm).
On 1993-98 vehicles, when installing the two power steering pump reservoir hose bolts, tighten them to 10-13 ft. lbs. (14-18 Nm).
When installing the high pressure hose, tighten the bolt to 51-58 ft. lbs. (69-78 Nm) on 1993-98 vehicles. On 1999-00 vehicles, tighten the bolt to 36-51 ft. lbs. (49-69 Nm).
When installing the power steering pump pulley, tighten the nut to 40-50 ft. lbs. (54-68 Nm).
Bleed the power steering system.

BLEEDING

Following power steering pump or rack and pinion replacement, bleed the power steering system as follows:

Fill the power steering reservoir to the MAX mark.
Disconnect the ignition coil-to-distributor high tension wire on 1993-98 vehicles. On 1999-00 vehicles, remove the fuel pump relay from the main fuse and relay panel in the engine compartment.
Raise and safely support the front of the vehicle securely on jackstands so that the front wheels are off of the ground.
Crank the engine with the starter motor. Add fluid to the power steering reservoir until the level remains constant.

CAUTION
Do not hold the steering wheel against a stop for more than 15 seconds at a time.

While cranking the engine, turn the steering wheel from stop to stop. Check the fluid level and add fluid as necessary.
Connect the ignition coil-to-distributor wire on 1993-98 vehicles. On 1999-00 vehicles, install the fuel pump relay.
Start the engine and allow to idle for several minutes.

CAUTION
Do not hold the steering wheel against a stop for more than 15 seconds at a time.

Turn the steering wheel from stop to stop several times.
Turn the engine off and check the fluid level. Add fluid as necessary.
Lower the vehicle.
