Nissan Repair: starter, air intake hose, nissan maxima

Question
where is the starter located on a 2001 Nissan Maxima

Answer
Carissa,

It is under the air intake hose and box.  You access it from the top of the engine.  Remove the air filter box and intake hose and you will see it, on the driver's side, on top of the transmission.  A connector, two bolts and it comes out.  One of the bolts is a bellhousing bolt and it requires a long breaker bar to get it loose.  The other one is easy.  The harness is the most difficult part to get off.  Be sure to disconnect the negative terminal on the battery before you start.  The large cable on the starter is live all the time and if it touches the engine or transmission it will short and blow a fuse.
