Dodge: dodge pick up starting issues, fuel pressure gauge, throttle position sensor

Question
QUESTION: i did a tune up cause it was starting to miss and now that i put it alltogether   and finished new cap rotor and plugs  it will crank but it wont start un less i push the gas pedal in and then as soon as i let off of it it dies  i rechecked everything  making sure it was on  correct and everthing was seated tightly  which they were what would the problom be thanks for the advice  i have a 1998 dodge ram 1500 4x4 360

ANSWER: Make sure the cap is in the correct position, not turned at all. Make sure rotor is seated properly. Double check all spark plug wires for tight fit and correct order.

Did you change anything other than the cap, rotor, plugs, and wires?

Possibly do a fuel pressure test and make sure you have correct fuel pressure.

QUESTION: i did all that how would i do a fuel presure teste  thats what it seems like to me possible cause it runs with the accelerator also would have anything to do with the ecm some one mentioned  everything is done right put in the right spot and is seated correctly and firmly

Answer
Well, it could be the ecm, also could be the throttle position sensor, or a number of other sensors, but that fun part comes later.

First you need, a fuel pressure gauge. You will connect it to the small port. It should be on the fuel rail or on on the of fuel lines up under the hood. Usually will have a black cap on it. (NOT THE ONE ON THE AC LINES) Test it just like a bike tire pressure. See where it is when running, at idle and at about 2000 and 3000 rpm.

What I usually do, for a quick test, is take a rag and put it over the port, then depress the little core inside real quick with a screw driver. See if it sprays out a decent amount or just dribbles out. Not real reliable since you may have low pressure instead of no pressure, but it kind of a quick way of seeing if you are getting any fuel. Don't smoke while doing it, lol.

You can test the TPS sensor as well b y checking the resistance on the pins while you turn the butterfly (push the gas pedal) at the same time. The TPS should be on the throttle body.
