Nissan Repair: headlights melted, xenon conversion, replacement headlights

Question
I have a 11/03 Pulsar hatch with individual lenses for the high and low beam headlights (black inserts),  Both low beam lights have melted the plastic surround where the globes go into the headlight casing.  Both globes are marked H7.  The surround has melted away so much that the globes just 'float' in the socket rendering them pretty much ineffective.  Is this a common problem with this model as the spare parts guy seemed to think it was not uncommon for this model?  Is there an alternative to purchasing replacement headlights to fix the problem?  Thanks

Answer
Mcgyver,

You could go to aftermarket headlights from a variety of sources.  Also, check out ebay for HID aftermarket units.

Yes, the headlights are known to melt due to their design.  Other than going to another design or changing to HID bulbs I do not know how you would get the temperature down.  Or, buy new headlight assemblies every seven years.  Bad design on their part...  Check out the following link to some aftermarket lights offered.
