Nissan Repair: car problem, throttle position sensor, mass airflow sensor

QUESTION: Hi, I got sentra 2001,I had the service engine light for two years on, (on checking it indicate AMFS),2 days ago engine shut of on traffic lights or the car doesn't drive smoothly while driving, some mechanic said AMFS, then fuel regulator, the in tank and out, can any body help me,  Thanks

ANSWER: Fadi,

Since it is a Sentra the usual problem is the mass airflow sensor that is the problem.  Replace the MAF sensor and reset the computer and you should be fine.

QUESTION: I will buy a new one, although I had a second used one at home, putting it on the car it goes well for few KM, then back to where it was then change it again and so on, I noticed today than in the morning the car didn't start or start and goes off till I pulled the wires of AMFS out, it start but in a funny way, the engine goes up and down Thanks

Also, check for vacuum leaks and check the resistance on the throttle position sensor.  Email me back and let me know how it goes.

QUESTION: Hi Van
Thank you for the advice,I changed the mass airflow sensor, the car now is running fine and smooth(about a week now), but still have the service engine light on, I found the spark plugs are old and almost done, could they give or affect the signal as MAS, Thank you

Have the code checked to see what code is stored.  If you like, disconnect the battery for five minutes and reconnect it to clear the code and see if it stays gone.  If so, there is no need to do more.  If it comes back on have the code checked and email me back.
